1. Choose quality packaging
This is a logical requirement for shipping your package. It is just a requirement that many people are often unaware of.
There are several options you can choose from when sending your package. And with it, different choices for packaging shipments. In general, you’ll see the following 4 choices:
The shipping box
Large and/or heavy contents are usually packed in a shipping box. Choose a box that best matches the size of the products being shipped.
A box that is too large can cause the contents in the box to slide around and thus break. Also, the cardboard of the box may begin to dent or even fail to protect. Empty space could possibly be filled with material, such as paper. However, it is better for both the environment and your wallet to use a smaller box.
However, it is better for both the environment and your wallet to use a smaller box.
These packages are great for shipments that are both small and flat, can go through the mailbox, but could still use some sturdiness. A letterbox package has the huge advantage that the customer does not have to be home at the time of delivery.
This package may have a maximum weight of 2 kg. Also, the package should not be larger than 38 x 26.5 x 3.2 cm. Sending a letterbox package is more profitable than sending a shipping box. Of course, this is also a normal phenomenon, they are smaller and weigh considerably less than a shipping box.
Air cushion envelope
Do you have small content that needs to be shipped? Then, of course, you can use an envelope. The only drawback to an envelope is that it doesn’t protect well. That’s why an air-cushion envelope was invented.
This is an envelope with bubble wrap on the inside. This air cushion film protects the contents of the shipment. This envelope is ideally suited for small and light shipments.
2. The right material
Often the packaging material is made of cardboard. However, the packaging material has more functions than protecting the contents. After all, it can also help create a positive brand image.
Therefore, it is important to think about the quality of the cardboard. After all, if a customer receives a box dented on all sides, it doesn’t come across well. You can remedy this by choosing a good quality cardboard.
The thickness of the cardboard depends on the weight of your shipment to be packed. Is the content light in weight? Then single-ply cardboard is good enough. If the contents are a bit heavier, use a double-layer cardboard.
3. The right inner packaging
We always recommend choosing the outer packaging as best as possible. So choose the right size shipping box, letterbox package or air-cushion envelope. This is because it is the most beneficial for your wallet, the environment and the safest for the contents of the shipment.
In fact, a well-connected box reduces empty space. This allows delivery drivers to carry more packages at one time. Also, you don’t have to spend money on inner packaging. So this is a win-win situation.
Now, of course, it can always happen that it just doesn’t fit and you have to use inner packaging anyway. To best protect your products, we always recommend this to you as well. You can fill the empty spaces with, for example: paper, foam bags and air cushions.
4. Consider the environment during packaging
While packing, it is very wise to keep the environment in mind! Indeed, this is an important aspect in the eyes of society. So this is also important for your customers!
Therefore, choose cardboard that is recyclable. It is also helpful to package your products so that there is as little empty space as possible. We are sure your customers will appreciate it!
5. Merge multiple shipments
Do you have several products that need to go to the same address? Then you can indeed merge these packages! In that case, make sure all the products fit in one shipping box. After all, you can’t glue different shipping boxes together.
It is also important to never pack heavy and light products together in one box. In fact, these products need a different kind of packaging and protection! So pack them separately whenever possible.
6. Getting the shipment ready for shipment
Step 1: Close the package of contents. This sounds like a logical step, but many people still don’t tape the box carefully enough. It is therefore wise to tape it shut in an H-shape. So this means across the length and across the width!
Step 2: Add all information. It is important that you address the shipment correctly. This is the only way it can be shipped from a to b in a proper and fast manner. To read what information to add, click here.
Step 3: Attach your shipping label to the package. This is a very important step, as it is imperative that the shipping label with all the necessary information is not lost.
